Kellie Pickler is one of "American Idol's" greatest contestants, even though she didn't win the show's title. Born Kellie Dawn Pickler, on the 28th of June 1986, at Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle to Cynthia Morton and Clyde Raymond Pickler. Her birth parents were her mother who was 16 years old. Pickler's childhood was difficult because her father was addicted to alcohol and drugs, when Pickler's mother left her at the age of 2. Morton took Pickler's custody for a period of two years, but Pickler stated that the situation was unsettling. "I was cooking with my mother and said to her: 'I would rather die than be here.' She pulled out a knife, placed it onto the counter top, and said to me, "Here, you do it." In fourth grade. It's unfortunate that I did not do something about it. The incident left lasting scars on my heart. Pickler ended up being given to her grandparents after she was 12. Morton failed to appear at the hearing. Pickler was taken care of by her grandparents all her life. She has cited them as the primary influence in her life. Faye Pickler, the grandmother who cared for her, passed away from lung cancer in 2001. Her grandfather continued to care for Pickler. Pickler graduated from North Stanly High School, located in New London (North Carolina).
